August Highlights
Thursday, August 16th
Dear Parents
Kick Off Night
In lieu of kick-off night we will have regularly scheduled practices on Thursday August, 23. This has several advantages:
- Provide a better exchange between parents and coaches at team meetings
- Allow families to focus on back-to-school week, with an already crazy-busy schedule
- Allow teams additional day to prepare for the upcoming tournaments
- Team meetings, which were regularly schedule at Kick-Off will now take place on an individual basis – allowing coaches and parents more time to discuss the program, expectations and other items.
Club wide events like the Lake Forest Day Parade were a great success! We love getting the Club together - but we realize that this is a busy week for families, and how limited the coaches’ accessibility is at Kick-Off Night.
Team Meetings
Team Managers will schedule a team meeting with parents and coaches within the next few weeks to go over the new season, distribute any important forms and answer questions. Most of the team meetings will take place over the tournament weekend, (Danny Cunniff or Palatine) when parents and coaches are together. These will be scheduled independently by each manager so that the coach will be able to provide full attention to each team
For the U8 teams which do not have a tournament over Labor Day, the coaches and team managers will set aside time after one of the practice sessions.
Game Schedules are Up!!
Fall Game Schedules are linked to your team’s web page. Any game changes will feed directly to the LFSA website. Don’t forget to bookmark your team’s page on your smartphone for quick access to game and field information! To view your schedule, go to www.lfsa.org. Click on Boys or Girls teams on the side bar, and select your age group.
Calendar, Calendar, Calendar
The website calendar has been updated and has links to upcoming tournament websites and other Club information.
Tournaments
The contacts for upcoming tournaments are your Team Managers. In addition, there are links directly to the tournament web sites on the Calendar. Managers will be receiving updated tournament information next week. By now you should have received an email of your team’s roster, and a welcome email from your Team Manager. (Boys U13 Select and Girls U12 Premier are still without Team Mangers. To volunteer, contact Andrea Perino)
Kiddles
Unform orders, white socks and other merchandise are now in stock. Stop into Kiddles and ask for Howard.

Christopher Quon Foundation
A Note from the Quon and Gorand Families
Dear Fellow Soccer Fans and Friends of the Quon and Gorand Family,
The 2012 LFHS Varsity Boys Soccer team has once again decided to dedicate this year’s Alumni Game in honor of LFHS varsity soccer and lacrosse player Chris Quon, Class of 2005. Also honored at this year’s game is longtime LFHS and LFSA soccer supporter, Jim Gorand, who passed away last fall.
Please join us for the Christopher Quon Alumni Game on Saturday, August 18, 5:15pm at West Campus on Varsity Field (Blue/gold games begin at 3pm).Proceeds from a raffle and auction will be donated to the Christopher Quon Foundation and funds will be used to help others in honor of both Chris and Jim. Wonderful silent auction items include packages from local businesses, tickets to a Bulls game, tickets to the Tony-winning Best Musical "Memphis", a US jersey signed by the 2012 Olympics US Women’s soccer teams - and much more! Raffle items include everything from a manicure at Beauty Spot to a NCAA soccer mini-ball!
As most of you know, Chris played in his only alumni game in 2009. It was a night our family will always remember and we are grateful the high school team has chosen to honor Chris with this special alumni game. Jim (father of Chris’ teammate, Pat) was at the game last year and we will always remember the huge smile he had on his face enjoying watching a soccer game with his granddaughter in his arms.
We miss Chris and Jim- and know they wanted to make a difference in the world. Through Chris’ foundation, we would like to continue their spirit of giving. (For more information about the Foundation see below or go to www.christopherquonfoundation.org.)
Enjoy a game under the lights, support the LFHS teams as they kick off
their new season, cheer on LFSA alumni,
eat some great food from Potbelly, and win some fun prizes
to help others through the Christopher Quon Foundation.
We hope to see you there!
Diane Quon
ABOUT THE CHRISTOPHER QUON FOUNDATION…
Through the loving donations of friends and family, the foundation was established in honor of Christopher Quon who unexpectedly lost his life from heart failure at the age of 22 in 2009. A graduate of Lake Forest High School (LFHS) in 2005 and Colorado College (CC) in 2009, Chris had just begun his career as a financial analyst at Duff & Phelps in Chicago.
Throughout the last three years, the funds have been used to support all that Chris loved and cared about so deeply. A varsity athlete in high school and college in both soccer and lacrosse, Chris used his sports whenever he could to help others less fortunate than him. As Chris did, the foundation has continued to support organizations that 1) are committed to fighting cancer, 2) use sports to develop young people, and 3) help disadvantaged young people in the areas of sports, music and travel. The CQF also honors Chris by giving back to his two alma maters with scholarships.
Chris’ family is committed to making donations in ways that will make Chris (and Jim!) proud. All proceeds from the Alumni game will be donated to help others in honor of both Chris and Jim. We are grateful for the continued support of LFHS Boys Soccer!

If the box is GREEN, all fields are open, and practices and games are scheduled as normal.
If the box is YELLOW, some of the fields are closed. The closed fields will be indicated in the yellow box. If your field is listed as closed, then no practices or games will be played until the field is reopened. If the box is yellow, and you do not see your field listed, then your field is not closed and all games and practices are on as scheduled, for your field.
Example: The Field Status Alert is yellow and indicates: “Northcroft Park all fields”. This means that all the fields at Northcroft Park are closed. Everett Park and West Campus are still open, because they were not listed as closed.
If the box is RED, all fields are closed until further notice. All practices and games are cancelled for all fields.
Note, for weekday practices, field conditions are assessed at 3:00 pm. If the weather is very bad, with no chance of improving, the field closures may be determined earlier in the day. However, in most cases the closures will not be determined until 3:00 pm. Weekend closures and cancellations of home games are done on an as needed basis, and updated throughout the day.
