LFSA General Program Description

The LFSA program for 2008-2009 is available to all Boys and Girls ages 6-11.

Players who are ages 12-18 should look under the program of FC United.

LFSA is proud to have a comprehensive training program for its players.

*      August Pre-season (3 weeks) beginning 8/11: The 2008-2009 Season begins with a clinic that develops the players’ skills, as well as gives team players the opportunity to meet and have fun before the upcoming season. The clinic runs Monday through Thursday and practices last 1½ hours each. Players are encouraged to come to as many practices as possible, although LFSA recognizes that many families still travel during this time. LFSA will have a Kick-Off Night on the final day, August 28th. There will be no regular practices that day.

*      Fall Season (11 weeks): The Fall Season lasts 11 weeks and is comprised of 2 practices each week (1 ½ hours each) and 10 games on weekends. The Fall Season generally ends Mid-November. Practice schedules will be available at the beginning of July. Game schedules will be available mid-August.

*      Indoor Season (10 weeks): The Indoor Season runs from January to mid-March. Practices are once a week for 1 hour each.  Games for U9-U12 are played at Libertyville Sports Complex.

*      Spring Season (10-11 weeks): The Spring Season is similar to the Fall Season. Each team will have 2 practices each week (1½ hours each) beginning after Spring Break. The season will run until mid-June and will consist of 9 or 10 games.

*      Tournaments: One tournament is included in the cost of registration, although teams may choose to participate in additional tournaments at an additional cost. Tournaments typically attended are over Labor Day and Memorial Day Weekends.

Please note that all practices and home games take place on local Lake Forest Fields, with the exception of the Indoor Season played in Highland Park and Libertyville . Half of all Fall and Spring Games are played on Home Fields.

Boys play in the YSSL (www.yssl.org) with Saturday games.

Some teams may compete in NISL (Northernillinoissoccerleague.com)

Girls play in the IWSL (www.iwsl.com) with Sunday games.

FAQ - What is the difference between the Blue, White and Gold Teams?

The name designation for each team depends on the relative strength of the age group as a whole. The strength of the teams depends on the skill level of the kids that come to tryouts that year. Sometimes the teams are barely distinguishable talent-wise, other times our Blue teams are much stronger than the White teams.  Occasionally we are fortunate enough to have enough players show up to make three teams (the roster limit is set by the Illinois Youth Soccer Association). Again, sometimes there is barely any distinction between the White and Gold (3rd) teams, and sometimes the White team is stronger.

The Coaches gather as a group to discuss each player. They do their best to place them on the appropriate teams and in the appropriate divisions so that they will find success. There is always room for advancement for players from one year to the next, and there is no guarantee that a player will remain on the same team.

In the case of ALL teams, the amount of playing and practice time included in the LFSA program is the same, and all are given experienced Professional Coaches that will help players develop their soccer skills.
